Over the weekend, Kenyan authorities issued advisories to its nationals in the Middle East as the Iran-Israel-US conflict reached unprecedented levels with the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader and the country’s retaliation against US allies in the region.

  • There are hundreds of thousands of Kenya across the Middle East, which makes any military escalations a direct risk with domestic implications.

  • The choices, or need, for evacuation will depend on when Gulf countries feel safe enough to reopen their airspaces, but there are also other more immediate risks.

  • There are other risks that will have effects on Kenya and East Africa, including potential disruptions to oil and other supply chains, security implications as Middle East countries jostle for geopolitical influence in East Africa.

Boeing Bets on Africa

Africa’s aviation market is growing faster than Asia’s for the first time on record, Henok Teferra Shawl, Managing Director for Africa at Boeing says in this interview with The Kenyan Wallstreet. Henok says countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda are expanding, feeding a steady rise in travel demand. Boeing projects the region's commercial airplane fleet will more than double to 1,680 airplanes by 2044. The continent will require 74,000 aviation professionals over the next two decades, pilots, engineers and technicians.

Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya’s Youth Rank High in Mental Health Survey but Generational Gap Persists

Kenyan young adults rank third out of 84 countries in mental health, defying a widening global crisis that now affects more than four in ten of their peers worldwide and threatens long-term workforce productivity.

That is the central finding of the 2025 Global Mind Health Report published by Sapien Labs, a Washington, D.C.- nonprofit that surveyed nearly one million internet-enabled respondents across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. The report shows that 41% of young adults aged 18 to 34 globally fall into what it terms a “mind health crisis,” with impairments across emotional regulation, cognition, social functioning and physical resilience severe enough to hinder daily life and work.

By contrast, several Sub-Saharan African countries dominate the top of the rankings: Ghana ranks first worldwide for youth mental health, followed by Nigeria and Kenya, with Zimbabwe and Tanzania completing the top five.
