How a Compensation Claim over Garden City Advertising Contract Flopped

A battle over advertising space at the Garden City Mall has ended with a surprising twist: the marketing company claiming tens of millions in lost revenue walked away empty-handed, and now owes money to the mall operator. JohnGray Communication Ltd, the firm hired to manage signage, events, and other commercial activities at the popular retail hub, argued it was forced out unfairly and suffered heavy financial losses. The High Court agreed, but the main issue then became who owed who what. In the end, the courtroom chess match produced an ironic turn. JohnGray had established that the mall operator broke the contract, yet emerged owing the operator more than KSh3 million.

INSIGHT : Kenya Among Top COMESA Investment Destinations

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the COMESA region hit US$65 billion in 2024 and Kenya ranked among the bloc’s top five destinations. The figures are contained in the inaugural COMESA Investment Report 2025, jointly produced by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the COMESA Regional Investment Agency (RIA). Although the report does not disaggregate country-specific inflows in the press statement, its narrative positions Kenya as an increasingly strategic destination for energy, manufacturing, agribusiness and regional headquarters operations — sectors that remain central to Nairobi’s own economic ambitions.
